There are many countries that have a GMI guaranteed minimum income (GMI). This is a social welfare provision that guarantees that all citizens or families have an income sufficient to live on, provided they meet certain conditions. The primary goal of a guaranteed minimum income is to reduce poverty. We have multiple social programs that fall under this in the United States like SSI and SSDI. Of course, to receive these one must meet certain criteria. If citizenship is the only requirement, the system turns into a universal basic income (Alaska). Our government is currently looking at a Direct Cash Assistance for Americans. Republicans don’t love the idea of spending money, and Democrats don’t love the idea of expending political capital that would contribute to Donald Trump’s benefit. The economic consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic has called for this humanitarian relief measure and an economic stimulus.
Will it be enough, or is it too little? We are in a time that has shaken the American values and is bringing a realization to the masses on what and who is truly valuable. Will this wake up the sheeple and change our social constructs or once this is over will everyone return to their old ways forgetting at anytime this could happen again or even worse. PAY ATTENTION your life could depend on it!
